New Scam Alert: BEC Victim Lost $1.2M

L'OBSERVATEUR reported:

Cyberattack on St. Charles Parish costs over $1.2M, state auditor says.

The audit noted that the parish’s internal controls did not promptly detect the fraud. Specifically, there were no proper controls over changes in vendor banking information, which enabled the fraudster to reroute the payment. Since the incident, the parish has implemented new internal controls to prevent a similar event, according to the report.
