The City of Florence, OR recently discovered an attempt by an unknown party who impersonated a valid vendor of the City. The impersonator acted in order to redirect a legitimate payment from the City to the vendor into the impersonator’s fraudulent account. The City was able to take immediate action upon discovering the incident and, working swiftly alongside local law enforcement, City staff successfully recovered the funds.
In response to this incident, the City immediately implemented policy changes to enhance vendor verification processes and prevent similar fraudulent activities in the future.
