CBS Austin reported:
HUTTO, Texas — The City of Hutto recovered $286,000 involved in two separate criminal investigations.
According to city officials, the first incident happened in mid-May. A paper check issued by the city was intercepted and used to produce a counterfeit check amounting to $93,000. That money was deposited into an account in Florida.
In August, a fraudulent party impersonating a known city vendor requested $193,000, which was then transferred out of the city’s bank account.
The Hutto Police Department investigated the incidents and, as a result, the money was recovered.
