Iowa's News Now reported:
DES MOINES, Iowa — The state auditor says two Iowa school districts recently lost thousands of dollars to scammers.
Auditor Sand says one of the school districts lost $100,000 after they got a fake email telling them to send payments to a new address, in what's known as a Business Email Compromise (BEC) scam.
The other school district's bank account was targeted by scammers engaging in a check fraud scheme where they got away with $10,400.
Auditor Sand said the scammers made up fake checks with the district's bank account and routing numbers on them, then successfully cashed two of the checks at area banks.
