session description

The IRS expected retirement of the Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) after Tax Year 2025 has brought changes to the use of the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS).  Accounts Payable (AP) or Vendor team members that are responsible for the IRS tax filing and distribution of  any volume of 1099-MISC,  1099-NEC and 1042-S forms for Tax Year 2025 this training is a must.  The IRS introduced the use of the Information Returns Intake (IRIS) System for electronic tax filing last year for Tax Year 2022, and there are many that will be first time users or first time IRIS filers for the 1042-S and have questions on the requirements and process that this training will cover.  Note:  This training is not to be interpreted as tax or legal advice.  The context is from the AP - Vendor team perspective when they handle 1099-MISC | 1099-NEC | 1042-S reporting.  This is "Non-Official" training on the IRIS portal.

After this session participants will be able to:
  1. Understand the differences between the IRIS and FIRE e-filing systems and recommendations of when to use for Tax Year 2025
  2. Determine what is required to be setup on IRIS to file 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC and 1042-S with the IRS and distribute to the recipient
  3. Know the deadline dates for recipient forms distribution, IRS tax filing and the process to request extensions when using IRIS
  4. Successfully populate IRIS with vendor data to complete the IRS tax filing and print and distribute recipient forms
  5. Understand how up upload vendor data into IRIS using the CSV file template provided by the IRS
